Kuna Yala, an indigenous region in Panama, is the main inspiration for Pourtavoosi’s newest collection. During her recent travel to Panama in 2012, Bita has vited an unusual cluster of islands called “Kuna Yala”, in the San Blas region. Being rich in ethnicity, color, and geometric design; Kuna Yala was what drove Bita to create this exceptional collection.
Being in a secluded and rustic island for days straight gave Bita the opportunity to be disconnected form the modern world and completely recharge and refresh her creativity. The simplicity of nature and all its beauty was exactly what was needed to regain motivation. The textiles and clothing of the Kuna people, called “Tulemolas” (also known as “mola”), were the main source of stimulus for this collection. The geometric patterns of the beautifully handcrafted fabric gave way to an extremely unique and exciting collection.
Coming back from such a stunning and rural country, Bita was able to create a collection of ancient aesthetics with a modern twist. Using chains, spikes, and the mixing of metals made the once ancient beauty into modern and daring. Featuring pendants with hand engraved geometric patterns using shapes such as triangles and circles; this collection is a definite eye catcher!
